What’s been happening in the Studio?
It’s February! Yay!
For a combination of reasons January always seems as though it has about 75 days. This winter has been more dramatic than in years past, with storm after storm depositing lots of snow. Plus, some of the coldest weather we’ve had in years. Still, it’s beautiful. The Christmas card views out the windows are indeed impressive. So quiet and calm, sparkly and crisp. It’s just that the whole thing seems to overstay its welcome. Perhaps one would think that being surrounded by a winter wonderland would mean endless paintings of snowy landscapes and frosty vistas. Well, no. In fact, for this painting quite the opposite has happened. “House in field in August” is a larger canvas than I normally work with, 30x40 inches. There’s a lot of paint here, as I threw down all sorts of little leftovers I had hanging around the studio from a couple of barn quilt projects I’d worked on recently. A riot of colour and some great freedom to just smoosh it all around and have fun (and then I got some on my socks and tracked it all over the house). It was actually a great way to start the painting, as well as providing a great “ground”.
As always, thanks for stopping by!
